Frequently Asked Questions on ISGCI

Question: Which version of Java do I need?
Answer:You need at least version 1.1, but for printing to work you need version 1.3 or higher of Sun's Java Plugin. Newer versions of Java are faster than 1.1, too.

Question: In my browser I cannot find a START button on the homepage.
Answer: Probably JAVA support is not enabled in your browser. In Netscape, java can be enabled by clicking Edit, Preferences, Advanced, Enable java and then clicking OK.
Alternatively, you may be using Microsoft's Internet Explorer without Sun's Java plugin. Microsoft's own version of Java is not compatible with the rest of the world.
Finally, your browser may be very old (netscape/internet explorer version smaller than 4) and not JAVA 1.1 compatible. Then you should install a JAVA 1.1 compatible one.

Question: The program seems to hang under Netscape 4.7?
Answer:There is a bug in Netscape's event handling system that causes the program to suspend its output until it gets some input. If you move your mouse, you will see that the window suddenly appears.

Question: The program is very slow.
Answer:Probably you are using an old version of Java, without compilation. Installing a newer version (at least 1.3 recommended) will help a lot. Contact your system administrator for details.

Question: Export to postscript doesn't do anything!
Answer: Your computer doesn't recognize the cryptographic signature of the applet. Install Sun's java plugin, at least version 1.3.

Question: I can't find inclusion A < B, class X, algorithm Y in ISGCI? There's a mistake in your Database!
